The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has arranged national level examination for career in Civil Services. By qualifying UPSC Civil Service examination, the candidate will get a chance to start their career in various Civil Services of Government of India such as Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Police Service (IPS) & Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
The Union Public Service Commission has its main headquarter located at New Delhi, India. The honorable President of India appoints the Chairman and other members of the UPSC.
UPSC conducts examination for Civil Services in two phases:
- The Preliminary examination &
- The Main examination.
The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type papers (General Studies & Aptitude Test) carrying maximum 400 marks.
About 4.5 lakhs people appeared for this examination in 2014. In the year 2013, the UPSC civil service preliminary exam was given by 3,24,101 candidates.

The Union Public Service Commission has taken IAS civil service preliminary examination on 24.08.2014.The results of the civil service examination are estimated to come in the second week of October.
