Good news for all those people who wish to have wings!! AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test ) is a written exam conducted by Indian Air Force twice every year to recruit Officers in IAF. The Written exam is trailed by Air Force Selection Board Interview for the short listed candidates.
Basically there are three branches for whom candidates can apply. They are as follows:
- Flying Branch
- Technical Branch
- Ground Duty Branch
Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT:
The eligibility criteria remains the same for both Male as well as Female Candidates. Please have a look at the same.
Candidates willing to apply for Flying Branch, must have completed their Graduation in B.E/B.Tech in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks in aggregate .
The age limit criteria for candidates applying for Flying Branch is between 19 to 23 years.
Height & Weight: Minimum height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight, Leg length: 99 cms, Max 120 cms. Thigh Length: Max 64 cms. Sitting Height: Min 81.5 cms, Max 96 cms.
Candidates willing to apply for Technical Branch, must have completed their Graduation in B.E/B.Tech in any discipline from a recognized University & cleared Section A & B of Examination.
The age limit criteria for candidates applying for Technical Branch is between 18 to 28 years.
Height & Weight: Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight.
Ground Duty Branches:
For Administration & Logistics:
Candidates willing to apply for Ground Duty Branches must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate OR Candidates should have a Post Graduate Degree/equivalent Diploma in any discipline with minimum 50% marks in any discipline.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce discipline with a minimum 60% marks in aggregate of all papers OR Candidates should have a Post Graduate Degree/equvivalent Diploma in any discipline with a minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
Candidates should have a Post Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
The Age Limit Criteria for Ground Duty Branches is as follows:
For Graduates: 20 to 23 years.
For Postgraduates: 20 to 25 years.
For LL.B: 20 to 26 years.
For M.ed /Ph.D / CA /ICWA: 20 to 27 years
Height & Weight: Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight
The Written Exam in AFCAT consists of two hours time duration. In all 100 questions are being asked, with each question carrying 3 marks. But with the presence of negative marking, for every wrong answer candidate shall be charged with 1 mark. questions are being asked from areas such as Current Affairs, Maths, Reasoning, English, History, Geography, Science, Polity, Economics etc.
After the written exam, results are published & the cut off is fixed.Candidates who are able to score above cut off are then called for AFSB interview. The interview subsists of Personality Test which is being conducted for a duration of 6 days. The personality test is conducted in two phases. the tests there in included are Intelligence Tests, Psychological Tests, Group Tasks & Personal Interview.
Scope of AFCAT:
Through AFCAT, one can apply for all three branches of IAF namely Flying Branch, Technical Branch, Ground Duty Branch. The Eligibility criteria for all three branches differ as mentioned above. Both Men as well as Women can apply for all the branches. Although for Women there is short service commission only in all three branches, for Men there is Permanent as well as Short Service Commission. However for Flying Branch only Short Service Commission is made available through AFCAT.
There by one has a clear chance of joining the Air Force Academy if one clears the written exam & then the AFSB interview.
